Inspired by the home of Saint Gobnait, the Irish patron of bees, where we walked among old mossy walls and magnolias in bloom, drank water from a holy well and indulged in amazing local honey.
“Honey Well” will teleport you to Ballyvourney, West Cork Gaeltacht.
Honey, Oakmoss, Magnolia
We popped into Ballyvourney to practice some Irish with the locals in the West Cork Gaeltacht and ended up with amazing local honey and stories of St.Gobnait, the beautiful patron saint of bees, who walked all the way from Inisheer (sailed some of it apparently) to find this little spot.
The spot is worth it, we think, as much as we adore the wild sea breeze of Aran islands. According to the legend, Gobnait herself wasn’t too keen on leaving Inisheer, but found her happiness here in West Cork upon seeing the nine white deer grazing in Ballyvourney. Cheers to all of us who found a home where we never thought we would!
