According to folklore, you never quite know what to expect from a púca. They might appear as a horse, a hare, a goat, or even something much more human.
A púca might offer you a rather terrifying ride through the night on its back or turn up when you need a little help. There is something oddly familiar about that - a strange, furry personification of luck, never quite good or bad, just… púca.
And around Samhain, when the veil between worlds is said to grow thinner, the púca become a little less mischievous and a little more themselves. This is their time of year: the fields are emptying, the nights are drawing in, and the last berries of the harvest are theirs.
